
This article showcases the successful delivery and completion of the network infrastructure project for an animal healthcare service clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina. This project involved comprehensive structured cabling, network hardware setups, and security camera system installation.
In today’s modern healthcare industry, relying on solid IT infrastructure is no longer a luxury but a NECESSITY. A leading animal healthcare clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina recently took a significant step in setting up its network infrastructure to fulfill its technological requirements to facilitate its operations. This project involved a structured cabling installation, data room build-out, and network hardware deployment, including security camera system installation.
Project Scope & Objectives
To support the clinic’s operational demands, a comprehensive network infrastructure setup were tackled: The project focused on three key areas:
- Structured Cabling Charlotte, NC: Deployment of CAT6 voice and data drops installation at multiple locations, providing wired and wireless connections for workstations, medical equipments, network printers, access points, and surveillance cameras.
- Data Room Build-Out (MDF): Data rack, patch panel, network switch, and power distribution unit (PDU) installation to build a centralized and organized network hub.
- Hardware Deployment on Network: Setup of Wi-Fi access points, security cameras installation in Charlotte, NC, routers, and UPS backup units to provide connectivity, security, and business continuity.
Phase 1: Structured Cabling Installation
The first phase of the project focused on installing structured cabling to ensure a strong and reliable network backbone throughout the clinic. This involved the deployment of CAT6 voice and data drops across key areas of the facility.
A total of 30 drops were installed, consisting of:
- 6 Voice Drops: For phones, ensuring clear communication across the clinic.
- 24 Data Drops: To support workstations, network printers, access points, and surveillance cameras. These drops are essential for smooth data flow across various clinic functions.
Our onsite IT Support Charlotte, NC performed cable testings. Cables were properly terminated, tested, and labelled and the patch panel ports accordingly:
- Voice – 1V, 2V, 3V (with BLUE CAT6 Keystones)
- Data – 1D, 2D, 3D (with ORANGE CAT6 Keystones)
- APs – AP1, AP2 (Also label AP itself so its visible from ground)
- Cameras – CAM1 – CAM4









Phase 2: Network Hardware Deployment
The second phase of the project focused on the installation and configuration of essential network hardware to support the clinic’s connectivity needs. This phase included the deployment of data racks, patch panels, network switches, access points, and cameras, each playing a pivotal role in ensuring a solid and secure network infrastructure.
Key Hardware Components Installed:
- Data Rack and Shelf: A 3-foot data rack was set up to house critical networking equipment, including routers, modems, and other components, organized for easy access and maintenance.
- 48-Port Patch Panel: A 48-port high-density patch panel was installed to provide a central point for connecting all network drops, simplifying cable management and future modifications.

- Network Switch: A high-performance network switch was added to facilitate smooth data transfer between connected devices, improving the clinic’s ability to handle high-volume traffic without delays.

- Power Distribution Unit (PDU): This unit ensures that all networking equipment receives stable and reliable power.
- Cradlepoint Router: Installed to manage the clinic’s internet connection, ensuring continuous uptime and enhanced security.
- Access Points (APs): Three long-range access points were installed across key areas of the clinic to ensure reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout the facility.

- Security Cameras: Four Verkada cameras were deployed—two interior mini dome cameras and two exterior bullet cameras—to monitor high-priority areas.

Investing in IT infrastructure is an important step for any business organization like animal healthcare clinics to become operationally efficient, reliable and secure. The clinic’s setup was designed to support both current and future operational needs by equipping the space with structured voice and data drops for seamless connectivity. This included the installation of 2 voice drops for telephony and 3 data drops to accommodate workstations and a network printer.
Strategic cabling installations and access to the central network ensure reliable communication, efficient workflows, and room for expansion as the clinic grows its services or staff. The setup allows for a clean, organized workspace that integrates smoothly with the clinic’s overall IT infrastructure.
